Life was not easy, and it was not kind. Especially a life that had been several hundred lifetimes in the making, one poor life after another after another. Finally culminating in an individual who was so beaten, so broken, that he had no sense of self. No self esteem, no self worth, no selfishness.

It was an ironic twist of fate, or a cruel twist, that he was exotic in appearance. His looks were not the norm for where he lived, at least not a natural norm, and people often took a second glance at him. He did not see it, however, for he deemed himself nothing if not for the others around him.

If his comrades - he did not have friends, he could not form such attachments - were punks, common thugs, he would follow suit. If they were the type to follow trends, he would do likewise. If they ever turned their backs upon him... he would quietly accept that, and lose whatever small amount of self respect he had managed to achieve.

In a way, it was tragic. But to the shadows, it was beautiful. A perfect doll, forged over centuries, made only to house darkness and sorrow.

They were well pleased. When the game was played out, when The One Who Should Not Be returned to his rightful place, they would come out to play.

The Doll was perfect: Beautiful, handsome, fragile, strong, and in place to do great damage to the world.

The Dark Personality smiled to himself as he watched through his Vessel's eyes. Soon.

Note: Yes, you read this correctly.
This is just a quick little question to guage interest; please feel free to comment.

If I were to open up a section of The Asylum devoted solely to web design and start taking commissions for site work, would anyone be interested? Basically I'm resuming my schooling to get my degree in graphic design and plan to freelance for a while. However, to do this I will have to create an online portfolio and have a bit of a customer base to start off with. I do free layout work for Apollymi, as I live with her so her payment is basically keeping me from living on the streets, haha.

Anyway, would anyone be interested in custom site work? For my anime layouts I tend to use screencaps or whatever artwork is provided to me, and I'm planning to branch into general photography layouts as well. Commission costs will start somewhere around $10 per hour that I work on the site (because hell, that's about what I make at the library and if I'm going to be putting time and effort into something, I want compensation for it) with payment due before I release the layout codings.

This is crossposted in public posts on my LiveJournal and Asylum Blog.

And yes, this is a public post ^^ For the sake of avoiding spoiling anything for those who have yet to make it to the theater, I will provide a cut tag ^^

Rent was everything I'd hoped it would be and more. I saw the musical on stage back in 1997 performed by the national performance cast in D.C. with a group of my fellow theater majors, and absolutely loved it. Even at that time, I wondered if anyone would be able to do it justice in the movie theaters.

Chris Columbus surprised me, and pleasantly so. From the opening with the main cast singing "Seasons of Love" on the stage of an abandoned theater to the on-screen viewing of Mark's "Today 4 U" documentary, I was spellbound. I know there are probably people who wanted to see other actors who'd performed the roles on stage when they saw it on the screen, but I was more than thrilled that most of the original Broadway cast reprised their roles ten years later. I still love the stage performance, but in my mind there really is only one Mark Cohen, and that is Anthony Rapp. Talk about aging well!

The only real qualms I had was the cutting out of two major songs (as much as I love "Contact," I just couldn't see it translating well and keeping a PG-13 rating!): "Halloween" and "Good-bye Love" which both appear on the soundtrack. I can only assume that they had to be cut for running time, and hope that they will be on the DVD release as either deleted scenes or restored in an extended edition or director's cut.

Seriously, I could see the chemistry between all these actors even ten years later was intact and running hot, and the additions of Traci Thoms as Joanne Jefferson and Rosario Dawson as Mimi Marquez did nothing to change the dynamic. The girls meshed well with the original cast, and you can feel everything that these characters on the screen feel.

I have renewed love for Mark, Roger and Mimi.

I also have the desire to write more of my crossover that I entered in the GWYaoi OTP challenge. I'm going to be good and wait until after December 31 to post anything, but after watching the movie I am reenergized to the "What You Own" universe. But I digress ^^;

Seriously, if you are a fellow Rent-head and you have any qualms about seeing it in the theater, you have no reason to fear. Columbus did us all good, the cast did us all good, and the movie is as moving and beautiful as the musical is on the stage.

Well, as mentioned in my LiveJournal, I'm not feeling terribly enthused about much of anything today. It's been one full year since I started on that particular journal, and in that time I've had a lot of people join onto the friends list. Unfortunately, the past month (October) started to show me that there are a few people on there that really probably shouldn't be there.

I like to think I'm an understanding person. I have been told that I'm caring and seem to know how to reach people. Unfortunately I think some of these people may be lying, because they constantly stab me in the back but are all nicey-nice when I am direct about it.

So for a while I may be posting my concerns over here, under a friends lock since the people on the filter here are the ones who haven't been two-faced. One of those people who was trusted no longer has her GJ, which is sad but if I need to talk with her I've still got email and AIM... if she's on them (and I so need to add her names to my work AIM but I haven't gotten around to it yet ~_~)

Anyway, the people on my friends filter here are staying even after the cut on LJ, which will be Saturday. There are a few other exceptions, but I'm not naming who they are since they'll find out when they can still see my posts over there. Anyone else, especially the ones who have hurt me, are gone. I don't see any reason why I should have to pick and choose my words so that they don't get twisted when I make a friends only post, especially if I'm wrong about who my friends are and I still wind up the villian.

I'm going to go work on Stand My Ground now. I don't need to think on this anymore today because I may start crying, and I have eight and a half hours before I can leave for the day.
